Congratulations to Mischigonong Lodge on winning the 2008 DeCourcy Award!

George R. DeCourcy became the Michigan Area Camping Chairman a year prior to his death in January of 1974. His intense dedication, talent, and humor gained him many Scouting friends and achievements. It is in his memory, his interests, and his devotion toward developing and improving council camping, that we, the members of the Order of the Arrow in the State of Michigan, initiated this award in 1975.

This Award was brought about as a means of developing a greater interest and support in the local council camping program. One of the purposes of the Order is “To promote Scout Camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.”

The Award is presented to the one lodge in our Section that exemplifies and carries out the best camping promotion program. Recognition is made annually at the Section Conclave.

The recipient of this award is determined by a judging panel from C-2B. Consisting of one youth and one adult from each lodge. The Section Vice Chief will preside over the presentation meeting.

DeCourcy presentations are held during the March COC meeting.
